I am currently reading White Night by Jim Butcher. So far, the thing I like most about The Dresden Files series is the verisimilitude of the world. The magic and supernatural aspects are not made up as the the story unfolds. Butcher seems to have thought out so many aspects of Harry Dresden's reality. I like the idea that magic has rules like physics.
